Carolina Pick 3 and Carolina Cash 5 are considered the identifying games of the North Carolina Lottery. There are currently more than 12 scratch-off games, but the two daily drawings give the state lottery a real name.
"We have had numerous requests from players to add these games so we expect them to be a hit. Typically, these type games are popular because they have lower odds than lotto-type games such as Powerball and there will be daily drawings," said Tom Shaheen, executive director of the state lottery.
Carolina Pick 3 will first go on sale Oct. 6. To play the game, a player chooses a 3-digit number between 000 and 999. The player can play for 50 cents or $1, but the prize money will depend on how much the player pays.
To win the biggest prize, which will be $500, a player will have to match all three numbers in order. Odds of winning are one in 1,000.
Carolina Cash 5 will go on sale Oct. 27. Players will pick 5 numbers 1 to 39. A player can win by matching two, three, four or five numbers.
The top prize will start at $50,000, and can carry over every night up to a maximum of about $500,000. The odds of winning the top prize in Cash 5 are one in almost 576,000.
Drawings for both Carolina Cash 5 and Carolina Pick 3 will be held every night on WRAL-TV. Both drawings will take place daily at about 11:22 p.m.
