Just In: A 15-year-old boy charged in the Jan. 5 shooting deaths of a couple in their Wake County home can be tried as an adult, a District Court judge ruled Tuesday. Search warrants in the case indicate the couple, Jose and Maria Mendoza, were unintended targets in a gang war between two rival gangs. The boy is one of two people charged in the case.

Edgecombe Man Charged In Roommate's Death

MACCLESFIELD, N.C. — An Edgecombe County man was arrested late Tuesday and charged with killing his roommate, authorities said.

Deputies found Joseph Garnand, 24, shot to death in his home Monday morning. Authorities said Garnand hadn't shown up for work for several days, and his boss went to the house to check on him and called deputies after finding a suspicious odor in the house.

Garnand had been deceased for several days, authorities said.

Ricky Martindale, 47, was arrested Monday night by a Cumberland County SWAT team and was charged with first-degree murder, authorities said.
