BellSouth Launches 'Virtual' Metro Ethernet Service To Link Networks

Posted Updated

ATLANTA, GA. — BellSouth

is adding a "virtual" metro Ethernet service to its lineup of network services.

Metro Ethernet provides data services between two or more customer local area networks.

The "virtual" product includes four classes of service as well as service level agreements and supports a variety of network architectures, such as point-to-multipoint.

Classes of service include best effort, business critical, interactive and real time. Interactive and real time are designed for voice and video. Business critical and best effort are designed to prioritize business data.

More than one class of service can be combined on the same Ethernet port, such as 90 percent of a port's bandwidth to support a specific function and 10 percent for another.

A wide selection of data speeds is also available.
