FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County authorities have arrested a Florida man in connection with the beating of a local prostitute.
George Stephen Jones, 33, was arrested on Thursday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Investigators said Jones picked up a prostitute along Highway 301 and took her to a secluded area off Highway 87.
Authorities said the woman told them she was assaulted with an unknown object. According to investigators, the woman's injuries were so severe she was transported to Chapel Hill where surgeons had to reconstruct her face.
Jones is being held in the Cumberland County Jail on $100,000 bond.
