Lenovo Names Former IBM Executive To Lead Operations

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Rory Read, a 23-year veteran with IBM, is joining

Lenovo Group

as its senior vice president for operations. Read will report directly to William Amelio, Lenovo's chief executive officer.

At IBM, Read most recently served as managing partner for the Global Industrial Sector of Business Consulting Services. Before that, Read led Global Business Transformation and Information Technology in the Global Services business unit. He also held executive positions in IBM's e-business strategy effort and as a general manager for business innovation services at IBM Asia Pacific.

"Rory has a wealth of global operations experience that he brings to the senior leadership team," Amelio said in a statement. "Rory will help us to sharpen our operations focus even further, and I look forward to working with him."

Read received a bachelor of science degree in information systems at Hartwick College in New York.

Lenovo acquired IBM's personal computing division in a $1.75 billion deal last year. The company is in the process of moving its headquarters to RTP from New York.
