City Leaders To Rethink Markings On Fayetteville Street

Parking-ticket writers on Monday cited a number of motorists parked illegally on the street, which officially reopened to traffic on Saturday, even though there are currently no clear markings of parking spaces on the street.

"I can see a lot of confusion coming about if it is unstriped, but bottom line, to come out of the gate right off the bat and start ticketing people for using the street for the first time in many, many years seems to me to be a little bit heavy-handed," City Councilman Phillip Isley said on Monday.

Leaders also said the timing is likely to be adjusted on some 15-second green lights that have caused traffic delays. Motorists said Monday that it took them 20 minutes to travel four blocks on the street.
