Christopher Brooks, 41, turned himself in to Durham County authorities early Saturday morning. He has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of robbery.
Anthony Rudolph Rankins, 41, of Raleigh, Christy Crittenton, 33, of Creedmoor and Brian Courtney Brooks, 38, of Garner were arrested Friday during a police sting at a Raleigh motel. They have also been charged with first-degree murder, as well as first-degree burglary.
Authorities said Edwin Knowles was killed at his residence located on Blalock Road, sometime after 9 p.m. Monday. His body was found Tuesday afternoon by a Durham County sheriff's deputy.
Knowles was the retired owner and operator of Bug Man Exterminators in Durham and owned several rental properties, according to family members.
Authorities said the four suspects stole jewelry, watches and currency from Knowles' home. After a struggle, someone shot the retired businessman in the head, authorities said.
"There was a generalized belief that Mr. Knowles had a lot of cash at home," said Capt. Paul Martin of the Durham County Sheriff's Office.
Christopher Brooks, along with his brother, Brian, and the two other suspects, is being held in the Durham County Jail without bond. They are all scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
