Raleigh police first arrested Doug Goodrich in June on a charge involving a teenage boy he knew as a volunteer youth worker at Providence Baptist Church on Glenwood Avenue.
Since the initial arrest, authorities said they've uncovered more alleged victims. In total, Goodrich is now charged with sex crimes involving seven boys between the ages of 13 and 15.
As police investigated the original charge further, they searched the seminary student's North Raleigh town house. They took into evidence nine photographs, a computer and a digital videocassette.
"All these charges stem from the investigation launched after the first arrest," said Raleigh police spokesperson Jim Sughrue.
The crimes are said to have occurred before his first arrest. According to details found in the arrest warrants, Goodrich allegedly encouraged the boys to engage in sexual performances and acts.
"What a shame, how terrible," said former neighbor Alan Shiveler.
Shieveler said he sometimes saw Goodrich entering his town home with young boys, but never suspected anything amiss.
"In today's environment, it really makes me sick that this type of stuff happens," said Shiveler.
A spokesperson at Providence Baptist said Goodrich has not volunteered at the church since his first arrest. He did not know if the boys involved in the latest allegations are members of the church.
As for Goodrich's status as a student at Southeastern Baptist Seminary, he was suspended after his first arrest and remains suspended pending the outcome of the cases in court.
A former roommate said Goodrich no longer lives in North Raleigh. A spokesperson at Providence Baptist said he is staying with family in the Triad area.
Goodrich made a first court appearance on the latest charges Friday morning. He is currently out of jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
