Top Country Acts Among Performers At 2006 State Fair

RALEIGH, N.C. — Officials with the 2006 North Carolina State Fair released the entertainment list for the fair on Friday, which includes both top national acts and many local performers.
The lineup features several homegrown artists, highlighting the state's growing reputation as a hotbed for talented performers.
Christian singer Chris Tomlin will kick off the Fair Friday, Oct. 13, followed by Jo Dee Messina's country tunes Saturday, Oct. 14.
Blake Shelton will perform his hits "Some Beach" and "Austin" among others on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Up-and-coming North Carolina singer and songwriter Eric Church takes the stage Monday, Oct. 16, with his new hit "How 'Bout You."
Dorton Arena hosts a trio of North Carolina artists Tuesday, Oct. 17, as Earl Scruggs, Mike Cross and Tift Merritt share the stage.
Country quartet Little Big Town's unique harmony will fill the arena on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Their debut album has produced the hits "Boondocks" and "Bring It On Home." Chris Brown and Paula DeAnda will showcase their fresh R&B sounds Thursday, Oct. 19.
Contemporary Christian band Casting Crowns will perform Friday, Oct. 20. Chris Cagle will sing hits off his newest album, "Anywhere But Here," Saturday, Oct. 21.
"We're proud to feature four entertainers with North Carolina ties at the State Fair and believe fairgoers will enjoy the lineup we have planned," said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler.
Concert tickets range in price from $5 to $20, and fairgoers can purchase reserved tickets online at
. Online ticket sales for all concerts will begin Tuesday, Sept. 5, and last until Thursday, Oct. 12, at midnight. There is a $1 discount on all tickets priced $15 or more if bought in advance.
Reserved concert tickets can be purchased at the Dorton Arena ticket booth during the 2006 State Fair unless the show sells out beforehand. Fair admission is required for all concerts, and there will be no free seating available.
Concert tickets will only be sold online before the fair starts. Tuesday's show starts at 6:30 p.m., while all other shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Doors open an hour before the show.
