FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — United States Marshals Thursday afternoon arrested a man accused of stealing a taxi and sending the driver to the hospital.

Johnny Savva Jr. was found in an abandoned house off of Boone Trail in Fayetteville, near the site of the alleged crimes.

Police said Savva had been a passenger on Tuesday of cab driver Dorothy Elliott and took off in her vehicle after she confronted him about a payment. In the process of driving away, Elliott somehow was dragged along the road.

Elliott was injured, but survived. She was released from a local hospital on Wednesday.

"She's upset, she crying," said Elliott's fiancé, Jerry Hayes. "She kept telling me she was sorry, you know, she blames herself for it, which I know it wasn't her fault."

Officers found the taxi soon after abandoned in a mobile home park.

It was unclear why the U.S. Marshal Service was involved in Savva's apprehension.
