DNA Results Fail To Identify Girl Found In Unearthed Grave

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — DNA tests did not help identify a child who's casket was dug up in Cumberland County.
Last October, Freddie West was charged with desecreating an unmarked grave. The medical examiner identified the child as an 18-month-old girl, buried about 40 years ago.
Even though the Sheriff's Office cannot positively put a name to the girl, they have turned her remains over to a local family. The family says they buried a 19-month-old girl in the area of the cemetery where the casket was unearthed.
The family plans to rebury the child.
