Crews Recover Body Of Missing Jordan Lake Boater

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities have recovered the body of a boater who was reported missing Thursday evening.

Crews found 23-year-old Brian Kime at around 9:30 a.m. Friday.

According to authorities, Kime and a friend went out boating Thursday night near the Seaforth Recreation Area at Jordan Lake. Kime decided to get out of the boat and go swimming. He went underwater and never resurfaced.

Kime's friend tried to find him but could not. Emergency officials say it took until Friday morning to find his body because Jordan Lake is tough to search.

"Even under the best conditions visibility in Jordan Lake is near zero," said North Chatham Fire Chief Mark Riggsbee.

A dragging operation finally located his body. Now friend Jerry Strickland is mourning with Kime's family about this ending they hoped wouldn't come to be.

"He's not a good swimmer, but I know they had life jackets on the boat. He should've had one on," said Strickland.

Kime's body is now at the state medical examiner's office, where an exact cause of death will be determined.
