The Wake County Child Protection team investigates every child death in their system. Sean Paddock's case was complicated, and they hope their recommendations will improve the safety of children in the future.
Sean was being supervised by Wake County Child Protective Services but lived in Johnston County. The task force said the communication should be better within and between county child welfare systems.
The task force also said it should be easier for family members to adopt relatives. They also want to study the possibility of adding a mental evaluation to the screening process.
The task force found no fault with Wake County or Johnston County child protective services in this case. But, they feel their list of recommendations can alleviate some of the problems that plagued this case.
