CARY, N.C. — Officials said a broken pipe spilled more sewage in Cary than originally thought.
According to published reports, Cary leaders said about 7.9 million gallons of sewage spilled into Swift Creek while engineers struggled to deal with the broken pipe at a pump station last week.
Officials originally believed more than four million gallons of sewage spilled into the creek. The revised total makes the spill the third-largest in the Triangle in the past decade.
A temporary pipe is up and running while crews make permanent repairs.
