Global Technology Services has signed an agreement with
Lenovo
to use Lenovo's ThinkVantage Technologies software applications on non-Lenovo PCs.
Lenovo purchased IBM's Raleigh-based PC division last year in a $1.25 billion deal.
The deal will mean the use of the ThinkVantage applications on PCs other than ThinkPad laptops and ThinkCentre desktops, which are now made by Lenovo. The software is used to improve PC productivity and reduce information technology costs.
"Through this agreement, even more IBM customers will be able to take advantage of Lenovo's innovative ThinkVantage Technologies, designed to help enterprises reduce the total cost of PC ownership," said Steve Petracca, vice president and general manager of Lenovo's Services, Software and Peripherals business unit. "With unique technologies such as Rescue and Recovery, Lenovo and IBM are delivering enhanced solutions across multiple platforms, which is what our customers have asked for."
IBM Global Services will license six Lenovo applications for use on millions of computers that the IBM group supports. The applications include data recovery, virus recovery, connectivity assistance, deployment and data disposal.
