Record Exchange Closing Its Doors

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Independently-owned music store chain Record Exchange will close all its doors next month.

All its stores will shut down, including six in North Carolina.

The owner said merchandise will be on sale until the stores close in early July, then the items will be sold online.

The first Record Exchange opened in Roanoke, Va., 27 years ago. At its height, there were 15 stores.

Time Magazine named it one of the country's fastest growing private businesses in 1984.
