FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man has been charged with beating a 13-year-old girl.
Authorities said Clinton James Owens, 44, allegedly tried to force his victim to drink alcohol. Owens allegedly became angry when she refused, knocking the container out of his hand.
Investigators found multiple burns and lacerations on the victim's body. She had been bound with a cord around her neck, arms and legs, but she was able to escape from Owens.
Authorities said someone found the girl walking in a nearby neighborhood.
Owens is charged with first-degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and felony child abuse causing serious bodily injury. He is being held in the Cumberland County Jail under a $60,000 secured bond.
He was scheduled to make a first court appearance in Cumberland County District Court today.
