APEX, N.C. — A Rocky Mount boy, age 5, was found dead early Saturday evening in Jordan Lake, authorities said Sunday.
The child, identified as Christopher Mykil Harris, was visiting the lake with his family and was last seen at the Seaforth Recreation site on the Pittsboro side of the lake, a park official said.
Volunteers began water and ground searches after the boy's grandmother realized he was missing.
Divers from the Chatham County Volunteer Fire Department found the boy's body in about 4.5 feet to 5 feet of water at about 5:17 p.m.
Volunteers went in the water and did ground searches looking for the boy. They also stopped vehicles coming/going at the park.
There are no lifeguards at the swimming areas at Jordan Lake.
