APEX, N.C. — More than a week after Tropical Storm Alberto dumped heavy rain on the area, the effects are still being felt.

A sinkhole has part of a road shut down in Wake County Friday afternoon.

The ground opened up at the bridge that spans White Oak Creek in Apex.

Troopers shut down the road between the intersection of Green Level Church Road and Roberts Road.

The N.C. DOT said the sinkhole resulted from Alberto's rains. The storm washed away dirt under the bridge.
