Raleigh Police Identify Body Found In Woods

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police have released the identity of a man whose body was found by a group of people while they were walking their dog earlier this week.

The man, who police said was Alfonso Pacheco Hidalgo, 22, was found in a wooded area Monday night. Police are treating the case as a homicide.

A group of siblings found Hidalgo while walking their dog near New Hope Road and Rogers Lane. They said they smelled a foul odor that led them to the discovery.

"His shirt was ripped open," said Brian Harris, 18, who saw Hidalgo. "I saw his torso, his stomach area and his arms. He was decomposing." Raleigh police said the body had clearly been in the woods for some period of time.

Sources told WRAL on Tuesday that the man had been reported missing to the Wake County Sheriff's Office, but neither the police department nor sheriff's office would confirm that.
