Investigators say a trooper tried to pull over a motorcyclist who appeared drunk on Bragg Boulevard. The motorcyclist led authorities on a chase for three minutes before he hit a curb.
Troopers said the man was ejected from the motorcycle, hitting the curb and some metal pipes.
The motorcyclist, who was identified as Deldrick Montez McMillan, 31, of Dunn, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
It is the fourth accident in recent weeks involving a chase with the Highway Patrol. On June 9, Trooper C.V. Barrett was trying to catch a speeder in Moore County when he collided with another vehicle driven by 47-year-old Randall Spink. Spink died in the accident.
In Raleigh, Alecyn E. Ross, 39, was driving a stolen vehicle and being followed by Raleigh police and the state Highway Patrol when she hit a utility pole. Ross died in the accident.
Another crash involving the Highway Patrol occurred near RDU International. A trooper was involved in a chase when the vehicle he was chasing hit a garbage truck. One person died in the accident and two others were injured.
