Late Wednesday evening, the FBI told the Highway Patrol someone spotted Jorge Aguilera's vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 77.

WRAL has learned the vehicle spotted is a light-colored, 1992 Ford van with South Carolina license tag

. According to law enforcement, there were apparently three adult males and one child inside the car.

Investigators believe Aguilera kidnapped his 2-year-old son, Edwin Gonzales, at gunpoint from the boy's Chatham County home early Sunday morning.

Florentina Coria, the boy's mother, said four men led by Aguilera and her own brother broke into her house. The men cut her phone lines, tied up three adults and took Gonzales.

A statewide Amber Alert remains in effect. Investigators would not say if the car spotted was stopped, but they said they believe the car was likely headed toward South Carolina.
