WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — A 3-year-old girl has died as the result of a weekend car crash that also killed her younger stepbrother.
The arrangements for Shelby Denton's funeral are being made at L. Harold Pool Funeral Service. The visitation will be Friday from 7-8:30 p.m.
The service will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home's chapel, with entombment to follow at Gethsemane Garden in Zebulon.
Denton's stepbrother, 2-year-old Skyler Richardson, died Sunday after a car driven by Tabitha Lynn Crockett went off the right shoulder of Turnipseed Road, hit the pylon of a small bridge and overturned in four feet of water.
Crockett is Richardson's mother and Denton's stepmother.
According to the Highway Patrol, Crockett and a friend who was riding in the car were able to free themselves immediately.
Bystanders rescued Denton and performed CPR. Richardson was still trapped inside when paramedics arrived.
When the car was pulled out of the water, Richardson was unconscious. He was pronounced dead at Wake Med.
Denton was transported to the hospital Sunday in critical condition.
