RALEIGH, N.C. — In a struggle between three counties vying for a new psychiatric hospital, Granville County appears to be the big winner.
On Tuesday, the State House Finance Committee voted 24-8 to approve Granville County's site near Butner. The committee turned down sites in Wake and Chatham counties for the $110 million project.
The new hospital would replace the aging Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh and John Umstead Hospital in Butner.
The issue now moves onto the House for approval.
