RALEIGH, N.C. — The state House and Senate confirmed three appointments made by Gov. Mike Easley to the state Board of Education.
The board supervises and administers the public school system, as well as the funds provided for its support.
The confirmation means that Kathy Taft, John A. Tate III and Robert Thomas Speed will begin eight-year terms on the 13-member panel.
Taft and Tate are current board members, while Speed is a new appointee.
Speed is a Boone lawyer who has practiced in the state since 1983.
Taft lives in Greenville and is a part-time instructor with the health education department at East Carolina University. Tate is a Charlotte resident and senior vice president at Wachovia Bank.
