WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — One child is dead and another is in critical condition after a car accident in Wake County Sunday.
According to the state Highway Patrol, Tabitha Lynn Crockett was driving her Honda Accord east on Turnipseed Road when the car ran off the right shoulder and hit the pylon of a small bridge. The car overturned into the water, which authorities say was 4-feet deep.
Crockett and a friend were able to free themselves immediately. Bystanders rescued one of the children and performed CPR. The second child was still trapped inside when paramedics arrived.
When the car was pulled out of the water, the child was unconscious. Crockett's son was pronounced dead at WakeMed. The other child is her stepdaughter and she was listed in critical condition Sunday night.
