Investigator G.D. Elliott filed charges against Robert Eaton Deberry in September 1999. But Deberry has not yet been arrested.
Investigators learned recently that Deberry might be in the Durham area.
Deberry is charged with breaking into a home on Norwood Avenue and stealinga Stradivarius violin -- which the owners said was worth as much as $500,000 -- and the ceremonial kimonos.
He also was charged with obtaining property by false pretense for selling the violin to a local music repair shop. The owner of the business turned the violin in to police detectives, who then returned the instrument to its owners.
The kimonos have not been found.
Deberry, 30, reportedly frequents the areas of S. Roxboro Street, Summit Street andUniversity Drive.
