DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are investigating an apparent attempted murder/suicide on Dearborn Drive Thursday night.
When officers entered the home shortly after 9 p. m., they found George Mitchell, 54, of 3401 Dearborn Drive, lying on the kitchen floor. Mitchell was transported to Duke University Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound.
Officers found a second man, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, lying in a back bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head. The man, who appeared to be in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the older man apparently shot Mitchell and then shot himself.
