RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police have made an arrest in a three-month-old murder case.

Friday afternoon, Daniel Lang , 51, resisted arrest as police charged him with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Shirley.

The body of Shirley Lang, 44, a nurse at Dorothea Dix Hospital, was found in a wooded area off Western Boulevard, near the Dix campus in January.

Police said Daniel Lang, who reported his wife missing, had been a suspect in the case since the beginning of their investigation.

Detectives said until now, they did not have enough physical evidence to charge Daniel Lang in the murder. They said Shirley Lang's murder and the rape of a mentally ill patient at Dorothea Dix Hospital are somehow related.

On January 31, Daniel Lang was charged with the rape of the patient at the hospital where he was also an employee. At that time he was also charged with assaulting an officer.

Friday's arrest comes one week after Daniel Lang was released from the Wake County Jail on the rape charges.
