The Highway Patrol said the wreck happened on southbound N.C. 39 near the Wake County line around 9 p.m. A truck carrying four teenagers ran off the road while trying to pass another vehicle and hit a tree.

Passengers Matthew G. Stuffel, 19, and Christina M. Formichella, 16, were killed. The driver, 19-year-old Richard Anthony Hollingsworth II, and Amanda Michelle Tart, 17, were taken to WakeMed, where Tart was listed in good condition Sunday night.
