DURHAM, N.C. — More than 100 Durham residents marched into the Durham County Courthouse Monday for potential jury duty in the Mike Peterson trial.
The residents may be used if both prosecutors and defense attorneys cannot seat a jury using the original pool of people.
Peterson is charged with killing his wife, Kathleen, at their Durham home in December 2001. Court administrators say they called up the extra people due to the publicity surrounding the case and because the trial could last several months.
Jury selection is also expected to be a lengthy process. Last week, the prosecution interviewed six potential jurors. They still need to talk to six others before the prosecution tells the judge which ones out of the 12 they would like to see seated for the trial.
