Durham Police Arrest Registered Sex Offender

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police investigators have arrested a

registered sex offender

who was working as a volunteer at a Durham elementary school, charging him with two counts of misdemeanor assault on a minor under the age of 12.

Major Stephen Hall, 26, of Lawson Street was arrested and processed Thursday morning. He makes his first court appearance Friday morning.

Hall worked as a volunteer at Burton Elementary School, where the incidents allegedly occurred.

School officials said that Hall started volunteering at Burton in November 2002. He was an employee until this past April 9.

Hall has been accused of inappropriately touching a 5-year old student at the school.

Hall was convicted of committing a second-degree sexual offense in 1996. He was released from prison on Nov. 24, 2001.
