American Tobacco Project Moves To Next Phase

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A major revitalization project in downtown Durham is ready to move to its next phase.

WRAL's parent company, Capitol Broadcasting, asked Durham to build two parking decks on and around the American Tobacco property. Taxpayer financing for the project totals more than $43 million.

Monday night, the City Council and County Commissioners approved using public funds.

The next step for Capitol Broadcasting is finalizing leases with its anchor tenants. It hopes to have companies moving in by June 2004.
