CLAYTON, N.C. — A trip for ice cream took a dangerous turn in Johnston County Tuesday night.
Investigators said a pickup truck driven by Thad Smith ran through a window into the dining room of the Dairy King restaurant on Highway 70 East in Clayton.
Witnesses said the truck was forced off the road by another vehicle, driven by Joseph Teleoglou. Police said the pickup travelled 140 feet before hitting the restaurant.
Rubie Scoggins and Brenda Whitley, both of Zebulon, were inside the restaurant. They were treated at Johnston Memorial Hospital and released.
Police said Teleoglou suddenly changed lanes, causing the accident. He was charged with DWI.
Neither driver was injured.
