BAY CITY, TX — A high-profile murder case has led Triangle investigators out of state.
Officials exhumed the body of Mike Peterson's friend, Elizabeth Ratliff, in Bay City, Texas.
Ratliff died in Germany in 1985. Her body was found at the bottom of some stairs. Authorities say Peterson was the last known person to see her alive.
However, Jim Hardin, Durham's district attorney, thinks there are similarities between her death and the death of Peterson's wife, Kathleen, whose body was also found at the bottom of the staircase at their house in December 2001.
Ratliff's body will be brought to Chapel Hill for an autopsy on Wednesday.
