Another Sex Charge Filed Against Former Wake County Deputy

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Former Wake County deputy Richard Gibbs has been charged with another count of second-degree sex offense.

Gibbs was taken into custody Sunday, charged with an offense that occurred while he was a deputy with the Wake County Sheriff's Office. He was still being held at Wake County Jail on Monday on $350,000 bond.

Gibbs made his first court apppearance Monday afternoon.

Gibbs first made news back in January, when he was arresed on a sex charge. He turned himself in on Feb. 4, after being indicted for a second-degree sexual offense.

According to court documents, Gibbs was accused of having sex with a woman he was questioning in a criminal case.

Gibbs was fired from the Sheriff's office a year ago for failing to carry out his duties. Before that, he was suspended for engaging in cybersex with a teenager.
