In Dunhill Terrace in Wake County, remnants of December's ice storm can still be seen along the roads. Part of the problem is the neighborhood, along with others, is in an unincorporated area. As a result, those roads are not part of the state system and are not subject to crews clearing the debris.
However, state emergency management officials, along with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, are working together to come up with a plan to clear those areas, but some homeowners say they will believe it when they see it.
"We thought within two weeks or three weeks at the most, it would all be gone," homeowner Buck Priester said.
"Regardless of whether we pay taxes or not, a lot of this was out of our control. We just had no idea this was going to happen," homeowner Ken Krause said.
Starting April 28, officials plan to start removing the debris from the unincorporated areas. They hope to complete the task by June 27.
