FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman who was trapped inside a burning home Friday in Fayetteville has died.

A 72-year-old woman escaped from the home, being helped out by a neighbor. But 55 year-old Annie Davis was trapped inside. Eighteen firefighters helped rescue Davis, who died Saturday at the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill.

Fayetteville firefighters were called to the house on Maloney Avenue after 2 p.m. Friday. Investigators think the fire was an accident, though the exact cause was still unknown on Saturday.

Firefighters said that, when they arrived at the scene, the fire was fully involved, and 72-year-old Mary Bell was already outside. Davis was found unconscious in the kitchen.

Davis was revived with a defribrillator and airlifted to the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center. Bell was taken to the hospital.

According to investigators, three fire stations answered the call. Damage to the house was estimated at $30,000-$35,000.
