Smithfield Police Investigate Bank Robbery

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the robbery happened at 1:07 pm at the Heritage Bank at 1360 N. Bright Leaf Blvd. A single suspect entered the bank, produced a handgun and demanded money form the teller.

Police said the suspect, who was wearing a disguise, was last seen running from the bank after receiving an undisclosed amount of money. No one was reported injured, and no shots were reported fired by the suspect.

The suspect was described as a white man with an overall clean-cut appearance, between 5-foot-8-inches to 6 feet tall, 170 to 180 pounds and about 20 to 30 years old. He was wearing a white baseball cap, white collared shirt with long baggy blue jean shorts and white tennis shoes.
