Wal-Mart hopes to build a new store between Capital Boulevard and U.S. Highway 1A, next to the Weavexx Plant, but many say the town does not need another super store.
As the owner of Wake Forest's Art and Frame Gallery, Richard O'Neill has become a well-known fixture downtown, but talk of a Wal-Mart SuperCenter between Capital Boulevard and U.S. Highway 1A could paint a grim picture for business.
"Yes, it could affect us. I don't think it will affect us one by one, but it may affect it overall," he said.
For months, the town's planning board has wrestled with the decision to build the 24-hour discount giant. It would sit only a couple of miles away from a Super Target. On Tuesday night, the board was supposed to vote on the Wal-Mart plan, but members decided to put it off for another month.
"They keep pushing it back and sooner or later, the verdict has to come out because they are going to put the pressure on the council to make a decision," resident Morris Moore said.
However, some people disagree, saying a Wal-Mart would bring convenience to the area.
"I think it's a good idea. It's a lot closer than going to Raleigh or Louisburg," said one resident.
Members say they just want to wait one more month before deciding on the plan.
