Duke police said the attack stemmed from a fight late Saturday night.
Aside from the student body president, the former student treasurer and a Duke wrestler were also charged in the attack.
The 23-year-old Jean-Baptiste, 21-year-old John C. Njoku and 23-year-old Michael Curtis Mitchell were arrested early Sunday and charged with assault inflicting serious injury, a felony. They allegedly kicked and hit the NCCU student about his body, causing bruises.
Police also charged Njoku with assault on a female, false imprisonment and interfering with emergency communications, according to arrest warrants.
Duke police Maj. Robert Dean said one of the men got into a shoving match with the victim at a party at the Great Hall, across from the Bryan Center near Duke Chapel on Duke's West Campus. Dean said both men were asked to leave the party.
The three suspects are accused of confronting the victim as he escorted a woman back to her dorm about 3 a.m. and beating him.
The victim was treated at Duke University Hospital and released Sunday.
