SPRING LAKE, N.C. — The Harnett County Sheriff's Office has charged 29-year-old Sammy Lee Whittington with first-degree murder after discovering his wife dead in the couple's home.
Whittington is being held in the Harnett County Detention Center with no bond. He will have a first-appearance hearing in Harnett County District Court on Monday.
Deputies say that, at 12:17 a.m. Saturday, they responded to Lot 42, Peggy Street, Spring Lake. They said that when they arrived at the residence, they were met by Sammy Lee Whittington, who showed them the dead body of his wife, Patricia Whittington, lying near the back door of residence.
The body of the deceased was transported to Betsy Johnson Hospital.
