JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Twelve elementary school students and a teacher were transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital after a weather-related bus accident Thursday morning.
The bus carrying 47 students from Riverwood Elementary hit a flooded section of Buffaloe Road near Highway 42. Officials say the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and ran into a ditch.
The students were headed to a rehearsal for the "Showcase of Stars, a choral fund-raiser for the Johnston County Education Foundation.
Officials say all 13 people sustained minor injuries, but they are expected to be treated and released.
The driver was not transported to the hospital. The cause of the accident is unknown and is under investigation.
