Timothy Jackson pleaded guilty to felony murder last week.
He also pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon stemming from the same incident, and second-degree burglary, larceny and arson from the earlier incident. Those charges were consolidated for an additional sentence with a minimum of just under 10 years and a maximum of 12 ½ years.
A judge sentenced Jackson to life in prison without parole for killing Charles Baker.
Baker, a double amputee, was found beaten to death in his home last April. He had been robbed and repeatedly hit in the head and torso.
Baker would have celebrated his 82nd birthday a week after his murder. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an engineer for the Seaboard Coastline for several years.
Both Baker's legs had been removed. He was known for leaving his door because of his difficulty answering it.
Jackson was supposed to go to trial on capital murder charges last December.
