e-mail print friendly

A 10-year-old girl is showing signs of improvement after being struck by a pick-up truck along Capital Boulevard Tuesday morning.

As of Thursday, Melica Williams' condition has been upgraded from critical to fair. She is being treated at Wake Med.

Officials said Melica was struck while crossing the intersection of Capital Blvd. and Brentwood Road around 6:15 a.m. She was with her mother and a younger sister, walking from the Hospitality Inn to a CAT bus stop across the boulevard, when they were caught between the median and lanes of traffic as the traffic light changed.

Police said the mother was holding each child by the hand, but Melica pulled away and ran.

The driver of the pick-up and other drivers told police they did not see the girl. Police said the driver of the pick-up was not charged.
