Posted Updated

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man has admitted to killing a grocery store owner two months ago.

Police have charged 21-year-old Samuel Lamont Williams with first-degree murder and armed robbery in the shooting death of Ernestine Harper, who was killed during a robbery at the Virginia Street Grocery in January.

Police say Williams walked into the store, confronted Harper and shot her during the holdup.

Investigators said they had no suspects in the case when Williams turned himself in at the police station on Thursday. According to police, Williams knew details about the crime that had not been released publicly.
