DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities are sorting out the details of a Thursday morning wreck at Research Triangle Park.
Officials say David Michael Clayton, 50, of Hillsborough, was driving his pickup truck at the intersection of Miami Boulevard and T.W. Alexander Drive before 6 a.m. when he failed to stop for a flashing red light.
Authorities say Clayton's truck hit a tractor-trailer that rolled over and burst its fuel tank, spilling 150 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway.
Southbound Miami Boulevard was closed and traffic was diverted for about three hours as crews worked to contain and absorb the spilled fuel.
Clayton was transported to Duke University Medical Center for his injuries. He is listed in fair condition.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Authorities say charges are pending against Clayton.
