Officials Investigate Alleged Sex Offense At Raleigh Middle School

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police and

Wake County school

officials are investigating a report of a sex offense at a middle school.

The alleged offense involves a male teacher and a female student at Durant Road Middle.

The student's parent filed the report with Raleigh police Tuesday afternoon.

Late Wednesday, the school issued a statement saying, in part, "We were made aware this morning of concerns voiced by a parent about their child and one of our teachers. We take allegations of this type seriously."

Principal Tom Benton said the allegation is being taken seriously.

"Anytime you hear an allegation about a student or staff member, you're always surprised," he said."The first thing you want to do is make sure your kids are safe. Then you want to make sure there's a fair and impartial investigation."

The teacher, whose identity has not been revealed, is suspended pending the completion of the investigation.
