PERSON COUNTY, N.C. — Otis Long, a pool hall owner in Person County, died Wednesday after being beaten in the head. Investigators think someone might have information that will lead them to the killer.
Friends and family say Long was living a dream. Retired after 30 years in textiles, he opened a pool hall four years ago on Virgilina Road just north of Roxboro, but Wednesday afternoon, his dream came to an end.
Karen Sellers, Long's daughter, says the last time her family saw her father alive was when he went to work at 12:30 p.m.
"I mean, not even a dog deserved the treatment he got from the person. It's a monster," she said.
Person County Sheriff Dennis Oakley said someone came into the business between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday. They hit Long in the head and forced him into a restroom. He managed to get out, but later fell unconscious next to the bar. He later died at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
"I want this person found. This person took away a father, a grandfather and a husband. There's no sense in it," Sellers said. "If it was about money, he would have given money."
Oakley said this case may never be solved unless there were witnesses and those witnesses come forward. If you have any information that may pertain to the case, you are asked to call the Person County Sheriff's Office.
