Raleigh Considers Once-A-Week Curbside Trash Collection

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh is considering changes to the way it picks up trash.

Right now, city crews go into back yards to collect trash twice a week on scheduledpickup days.

A task force said the city can save money by changing to once-a-week curbside service. Many neighborhoods already bring trash curbside.

The Raleigh City Council said it may try a pilot program in a handful of neigborhoods across the city and then poll its participants before making a decision.

Last year, the city voted to raise more than $4 million by adding and increasing fees for trash, yard debris and recycling pickup.
